Maintaining Your Powder Coating
Powder coating is an amazing finish that is really popular on metal products such as workshop machinery, appliances, handrails and bike parts. It has been around for over 70 years being invented in the US in 1945. As well as being easy to clean, some other benefits include durability, low maintenance and a flawless finish.
A powder coat is a coating that is applied electrostatically as a dry powder which is then cured by heat. It produces a firm finish and is tougher than regular old paint. It is also a lot more environmentally friendly than paint as it doesn’t contain solvents. This means it doesn’t release VOC into the atmosphere.
If your powder coated application is outdoors it will typically last between 5 to 10 years. Inside it will last significantly longer. Factors such as sunshine, chemicals and general wear and tear can affect its durability. You can protect your coating by cleaning it every 2 -3 months and by using soap and water. Chemicals tend to break down a powder coated surface so it is advisable to avoid them. It is also best to use a soft cloth or brush as anything abrasive can wear it down too.
At WDIS.WA we offer powder coating as an option on our finished products. For more information contact one of our friendly staff today.
