There are primarily 2 types of ductwork. These are rectangular duct and spiral duct (round). When it comes to deciding which is best for your application there are many factors you need to consider. Round duct seems to be gaining on popularity and rectangular duct seems to be on its way out. Why do you think that is? Well, I’m about to tell you.
Ducts are essentially routes used in HVAC to transport air in and out of buildings. They can be either commercial or residential. Rectangular ducts have approximately 30% more sheet metal in them which means they cost more in material, insulation and installation costs. Don’t get me wrong, they are the perfect solution to an in-wall system. The only problem being that it is really the only excuse to use one.
Spiral duct is being fabricated at a much higher rate these days. The striking appearance and sheet metal look is trending in many buildings. It creates a modern industrial appearance to many spaces and there are so many advantages to choosing this option. Aesthetics, cost and efficiency just to names a few. It looks as though rectangular ductwork will soon be superseded and round ductwork will be the only choice.
